He has been told that the true heir has magic.Ī lot happened in this book.

Truly, he is suffering from PTSD in my opinion. Also not to forget that Rhen does some very questionable things. Rhen (and Harper) are barely there in this book. I think that Brigid did a great job at pitching the two brothers against each other in the most surprising, and often shocking ways. I have obviously enjoyed Grey’s character in Book 1 so, it was natural that when I got his story from his POV, I was all the way in! Honetly, this felt like the best way to move forward. She makes for a return with a promise for marching down to claim Emberfall very soon. Once he is found, he will come back to claim his throne. So, Karis Lauren then also reveals that her long lost brother is out there waiting to be found. He truly loves Harper and Harper loves him. Karis Lauren is heading to Emberfall once again to threaten Rhen to allow her people to use the sea ports for her own kingdom, Shyll Shallow and propose a marriage of her younger daughter Nolla Verin with him and end the centuries-long animosity.

So far, apart from Rhen, nobody knows this secret. And also because he sort of had enough with everything that went around for all those years they were stuck in the castle and under the curse. Afraid for what might Rhen do and how it would take this info, Grey makes an exit. In Book 1, Karis Lauren came and threatened Rhen and revealed that he has a long lost brother that no one knows about, it becomes quite positive that Grey is the half elder brother of Rhen through Lilith’s remarks.

And Commander Grey is nowhere to be found! He has disappeared and no one seems to know where! And since he is not around, Harper and her brother Jake, and his boyfriend Noah are all stuck in Emberfall as they don’t have anyone who can teleport them back to D.C. The evil witch Lilith has presumably dead. Rhen hasn’t transformed into a beast and is fine. This book starts right where we left in Book 1. In fact, it just challenges the first book for a No 1 spot! And for that matter cannot pick one! A part of me was very apprehensive as most of the times authors cant meet the same benchmark they set with their first book, but oh lord! A Hear So Fierce and Broken does not disappoint. I absolutely loved A Curse So Dark and Lonely (Book 1 of the Cursebreaker trilogy), so I just couldn’t wait to see where Brigid would take us in her second book. This was such a very anticipated read for me. TW: PTSD, Mild graphic violence, casteism, Neglectful paenting.
